Dear Families,
As we move through another busy and exciting term at St Mary’s, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible work of our dedicated staff. This term has been filled with wonderful opportunities and experiences for our students, from Foundation swimming lessons and the much-anticipated Foundation Zoo trip, visits to the Maffra Show, to various sporting events including basketball and cricket tournaments. Each of these activities provides our students with valuable learning beyond the classroom, teamwork, resilience, and confidence, and it’s all made possible by the commitment and energy of our teachers and support staff.
Behind every successful event lies hours of planning, organisation, and care. Our staff continually go above and beyond to ensure that these experiences run smoothly and safely, while still maintaining a strong focus on delivering high-quality learning in the classroom. It’s a true testament to their professionalism and dedication that our students continue to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally amidst such a full calendar.
Next Friday, 31st October, we will also celebrate World Teachers’ Day, a special opportunity to recognise and thank our teachers for the amazing work they do each and every day. The passion, creativity, and care they bring to their classrooms make a lasting difference in the lives of our students. I encourage families and students to take a moment to express their appreciation, a simple thank you, note, or smile can go a long way in showing our gratitude for all they do.
To all our staff, thank you for your ongoing passion, commitment, and care for our students. And to our families, thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we make St Mary’s a place where every child can shine.
Kind regards,
Julian

To celebrate student's achievements, we will be presenting children with Star Of The Week awards. This is a self nominated award of something a student is proud of. It could be something academic, sports related, or a personal achievement. Have you learnt to ride a bike? Won 1st place in a dance competition? Read a book by yourself? Anything that makes you proud!
Forms can be found on the link below.
It’s been a massive term so far of sport, and we are incredibly proud of all our students who have represented the school.
Twilight Soccer kicked off on Monday afternoons. It is fantastic to see so many St Mary's students out on the field, enjoying themselves and getting active. A big thank you to the parents who helped organise the teams – your support is greatly appreciated!
Last Wednesday, 18 students took part in the Regional Athletics in Newborough. Congratulations to all our athletes – you did a fantastic job representing our school!
A special shoutout to our 9/10 girls’ relay team, who came 1st place, meaning they’re off to State in a couple of weeks – what an amazing achievement!
We’d also like to give a huge congratulations to Luella Horsford, who not only won her two individual events and the relay, but also broke the 100m record from 2018. Absolutely incredible, Luella!

Also last week, 32 of our Grade 5/6 students participated in the HDSSA Cricket Gala Day at the Maffra Cricket Ovals. Battling the wind, they enjoyed a fun day out and displayed excellent sportsmanship.
A big congratulations to our girls’ team, who will be moving on to the next stage later this term. Well done to Elke, Anastasia, Larni, Summer, Hadley, Emily, Myah, and Jacinta!

Also last week, two grade 3/4 basketball teams headed to Traralgon for the Regional Hoop time competition. Both teams made it into the grand final!
The boys’ team played an absolutely amazing game but unfortunately lost by just one goal. Incredible effort!
The girls’ team also had a fantastic game — and won! They will now go on to represent our school at the State Hoop time in Melbourne this December. Well done, girls, and a big thank you to Mrs. Burgiel for her coaching and support.
