Dear Parents

We come to the end of Term One. Congratulations to everyone who has worked so well, under yet again, different circumstances to make learning a success. All of our children in Foundation have settled into St Mary’s and are making excellent progress. We have a break now coming to the most important time in the liturgical calendar- the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Easter message of hope, love and forgiveness remain at the forefront of what it means to be part of a catholic school. This together with our values and statements of Respect, Act and Learn is evident in our everyday lives.

It was great to see the participation of students and support of parents and families at today’s Easter Bonnet Parade. Congratulations to the families who were lucky in the raffles and thank you to Kim Parer for her organisation on behalf of the Parents and Friends Committee.

School resumes for Term Two on Monday, 19th April. In the first week of school all families will receive information to book online for Parent and Teacher Interviews on Tuesday, 4th May. Just to give you an idea of the events happening next term, these include basketball clinics, incursions, camps, interviews, school photos, NAPLAN and Confirmation. It will be a busy term.

Please rest up. Stay safe and enjoy the Easter holidays.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

Congratulations to Evie, Lara, Ada, Indyanna, Chilli, Sam, Sophie and Louis who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation last Thursday evening. Congratlulations also to Mia who received a Special Blessing. Thank you to Fr Siju and Fr Bickley who officiated our Liturgy and to Mrs Leah Hirt who led the music. Thank you also to all of the parents for their support preparing their children for this sacrament. All of the children did a magnificent job and were very proud of themselves as they took this next step in their sacramental journey. Well done everyone.

Forest Lodge Farm- Grade 4 camp 2021

We were at camp for 2 days and 1 night.The drive was about an hour and a half. The activities were archery, flying fox, giant swing, canoeing, night walk and bush cooking. Sadly it rained on the 2nd day so we couldn’t do the low ropes course. Our favourite activities were running on hay bales, archery, giant swing and the night walk. When we were on the night walk we saw a fox, kangaroos, possums and an owl. We had so much fun on our grade 4 camp it was full of laughs and smiles.

Wow!! What a fantastic turn out today for our Easter Bonnet Parade. The students bonnets looked amazing.

Thank you to all parents, siblings, grandparents and friends who helped with these fantastic creations.

It was great to see so many people come and watch our Parade today. After last year, what a magnificent way to reconnect our school community!

Thank you to our families and community for supporting this years P&F Easter Raffle.

A huge thank you to all the parents that helped produce the raffle ticket booklets, it was a great help!

We managed to raise $1,197.00 which will go towards new furniture and resources for our new pod learning.

Congratulions to Larni and Tawny who showed initiative when walking to school. They saw a lot of rubbish laying around and took the time to pick it up and get rid of it. They understand the importance of disposing of rubbish correctly because of the effect it has to both the environment possibly animals. Well Done!!

1st April ~ Sophie McQuillen

Congratulations to Sophie McQuillen who has perservered with her basketball to be part of a Grand Final winning team in under 10 girls! Sophie has continued to improve her skills at home and at basketball training. It's fantastic to be part of a team where she has learned not only skills but sportsmanships and to be a team player. Well done!!

The children in our 2/3/4 Pod had a wonderful time celebrating Easter by making these keepsake bunnies!

Parent Teacher interviews will be held from 1:30pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday 4th May 2021.

Interviews are 10 minutes in duration and are for parents to meet with your child's classroom teacher.

School interview instruction forms will be sent home with students in week 1 next term.

INCREASE IN GASTROENTERITIS OUTBREAKS WITHIN
OUR SCHOOL

Parents and carers are urged to keep young children at home if
they are sick amid a rapid rise in outbreaks of viral gastroenteritis
in Victoria.
Viral gastroenteritis is highly infectious. Symptoms include
nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, abdominal pain, headache
and muscle aches, with more severe outcomes in the elderly and
very young. Symptoms can take up to three days to develop and
usually last between one or two days, sometimes longer.
Washing hands with soap and water is one of the most effective
ways of preventing the spread of infection. Alcohol-based hand
sanitisers are not effective against many common viruses that
cause gastroenteritis.
Infants or children in childcare or school, as well as staff, who
develop vomiting or diarrhoea should stay at home until at
least 48 hours after their symptoms have stopped, since they will
still be infectious. If symptoms are severe or they persist, or you
are concerned, see a GP for advice and possible testing.

Please find the attached information regarding Sale Netball Association's Saturday competition.

Team registrations are due on March 31st. We realise the due date may be hard to achieve if you haven't already started planning your teams, so we'll accept entries up until April 19th. Round 1 will be played on May 1st and the final round (GF) will be played August 14th. There are no games during school holidays.

Our Saturday competition will be running a little bit differently this season. The season will continue for an extra couple of weeks for the younger age groups that don't have finals and we'll be adding in a few Friday night games to test the waters for the competition moving forward.

Players will need to register online for NV and SNA membership prior to round 1. Any player that isn’t registered will need to purchase a $10 NV single game membership fee to be able to take the court. This covers them for insurance. Could you please stress to all participants that they need to contact SNA by email asap if they are having trouble with their online registrations? Any unregistered players will not be permitted to play until they are registered.

Players turning 10 - 17 in 2021 will need to register as a junior player. Players turning 9 and under will need to register as NSG Competition.

All schools and clubs are required to nominate one or more representative(s) to form a junior sub committee for our Saturday competition. This sub committee will play a vital role in the continuation of the comp. Most of our general committee no longer have any personal involvement in junior netball so we are needing input from our up and coming families to continue to improve and thrive. One of our committee members will head the junior committee and report back to the general committee. The representatives are required to attend our AGM which is being held on April 28th at 7.00pm.

Mindful Connect Equine Assisted Facilitated Learning – Lindenow South

April School Holiday Horses for Courses Program

Day Programs : Boys and Girls 7-14yrs
Your child will be participating in fun “learning by doing” activities that will engage their creative and cognitive skills. We offer a range of games, crafts and ground based equine activities in a rural setting with purpose built equestrian facilities. Horses are great at responding to our behaviours and attitudes providing immediate feedback to help participants become more aware of the impact they have on the people around them. Adding reflection and mindfulness nurtures self-awareness and self-regulation. The experiences through their senses (touch sound sight smell) , team work, problem solving, respect , personal expression and inclusion supports the participants development of a range of healthy life skills such as effective communication skills, confidence, body awareness, perseverance, self-esteem, resilience and healthy relating skills.
