Dear Parents
I would like to thank all families while we manage the necessary procedures and protocols due to COVID-19. I understand the frustrations that some rules and regulations are different in the Diocese of Sale to that of government and independent schools. As you know I have children at two schools that have managed and changed events and dates due to restrictions.
In regards to events we now have both school camps organised, swimming lessons and hopefully our carnival date set by the end of the week. The major restriction we have in Maffra with swimming is that we need to have the pool exclusively to ourselves before we can proceed with an event. We also have restrictions in place in regards to holding liturgy and mass within the St Mary’s church. These restrictions are the same for every catholic school in our Diocese. At the time of writing we are in the process of organising a Liturgy for Ash Wednesday, on Wednesday, 2nd March. This will be held at our school. If we are able to join parishioners at Church we will definitely be in attendance.
With regard to parents, guardians and friends attending our school on site for events such as school assembly we will advise you as soon as this is possible.
Well done to our swimmers on Wednesday for the great performance displayed at the Heyfield and District Swimming Sports. While we lost the title of ‘First’ a fantastic effort and much fun was had with a ‘Second’ placing. We now have a number of swimmers moving onto the Sale and District on 17th March.
Catholic College Sale have sent to us information for Grade Six students and their parents. On Thursday, 3rd March the school will hold an Information Evening that will require prospective families to book a school tour. Between the 4th and 18th March Round One enrolments will be open for 2023 Year 7. Please be aware that some students missed out on a place for Year 7 this year. Orientation for next year will start after mid year when the school will come to St Mary’s to give further information.
Information for children wanting to start Foundation (Prep) at St Mary’s Maffra in 2023 will be made available later this term.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend
Jason

District Swimming Sports 2022 (written by Lenny Batalha & Ella Higgins)
It was a glorious sunny day on Wednesday 23rd February and the students of St Mary’s Maffra were ready for action, ready to deliver their best to represent their school. Pride was beaming from each and every student, eager to hit the water and swim.
The day kicked off well with the 50m freestyle. All age groups competed to a high level and super performances were put in by each individual. Special mention to Ella Smith, Mitch House and Ella Higgins for putting in efforts that should have Australian swimming scouts knocking at their doors soon!
The breaststroke & backstroke went off with a bang and students were hitting the wall with some impressive times, times that would even impress Kaylee Mckeowen!
Then came the challenging 50m butterfly event, the event that only the brave face. Four students were up for the task, Georgia Foat, Sam Gately, Jessica Rowley & Joel Shingles and it was a massive effort with each of them securing a top 2 finish, take a bow.
Finishing off the day were the relays. With great team performances and sportsmanship all round, it was nothing short of inspiring. A huge congratulations goes to you all.
Finally, a massive thanks to all the parents for their support and help on the day, and the teachers and LSO’s for their positive and up lifting spirit that was just as inspiring as the Kiren Perkins Gold in the 1500m, truly amazing.
Every student that competed at the district should hold their head up high and be proud of representing your school, we could not be prouder. Well done Champions!
