Dear families,
Once again we have had a very busy and exciting few weeks with lots happening in our school.
Firstly, I would like to begin by thanking all families that came to our Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. The children absolutely loved having families there cheering them on, it really showed what a great community our school is. A special thank you to all those volunteers who helped to run the events, it made the day run smoothly with all students participating and having fun. Our staff once again showed their enthusiasm and commitment to the students of St Mary’s with their efforts running events, and organising and supervising their students. Mrs Bec Stobie did an amazing job preparing and running the day. Well-done to everyone involved for such a wonderful and successful day.
Last week our Foundation students celebrated 100 days of being at school! The Foundation staff did a great job making the day fun filled and exciting for the students. It was heartwarming to see the Grade 6 buddies assisting the Foundation students throughout the day, showing what kind and caring leaders we have in the school. Thank you to those parents who were able to attend the party and bring some delicious food to share.
Last Sunday the students who are preparing for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion attended their first commitment Mass. This is a big step on their journey to First Holy Communion and we keep these children in our prayers throughout this time.
Lastly, I would like all families to know that my door is always open for anything that you would like to discuss with me about your children or our school. My job at this school is to keep every student safe while providing a high quality education for all. I believe a partnership with our family community is a great step to help achieve this.
Kind regards,
Julian Blackford

Well done Indyanna!!
12th August ~ Harper Lee
Congratulations to Harper who entered her first Junior Gippsland Championships representing Maffra Gymnastics.
Her team represented Maffra Gymnastics beautifully with their performances winning 1st on bars, 2nd on vault, 2nd on beam and 4th on floor. Harper and her team came 2nd overall.
Harper has shown through her determination, grit and hard work that she can do anything she puts her mind to. Her perserverance and hard work has helped her to triumph in a sport she loves.
Well done Harper!!
To celebrate student's achievements, we will be presenting children with Star Of The Week awards. This is a self nominated award of something a student is proud of. It could be something academic, sports related, or a personal achievement. Have you learnt to ride a bike? Won 1st place in a dance competition? Read a book by yourself? Anything that makes you proud!
Forms can be found on the link below.
What a big few week’s our school has had in terms of Sport. Our school did a wonderful job
competing in the Hoop Time Basketball competition in Sale recently. Special mention to our
Grade 3/4 Girls team who were successful in winning the competition and will now progress
to the next round. A big thank you to Mrs Burgiel for all her organisation and coaching.
On Tuesday all students successfully competed in our Athletics Carnival in Sale. We were
so lucky to have amazing weather for the day and it was fantastic to see all students try their
best in their events.
Thank you to all the parents and family members who helped on the day. We really
appreciated your assistance. I also want to thank all the St Mary’s staff who did a wonderful
job in assisting on the day. It was lovely to see so many parents, siblings and grandparents
come along and watch the students compete. It really was a fantastic atmosphere.
Well done to Corbett House on winning the Athletics trophy. Also congratulations to Ella
Higgins and Mitch House on winning the Vaughan Cup.
Next week I will let students know if they have made the next round of Athletics which is on
Friday the 26th of August in Sale.
The sun was shining on Tuesday as we headed to the Little Athletics track in Sale to compete in our School Athletics Carnival. All of our students did an amazing job of competing in their events. Congratulations to you all for your efforts!
The tally at the end of the day for House Champions was close but Corbett House came out with 1st place, MacKillop 2nd place and Curran 3rd place.
Congratulations to Mitch House and Ella Higgins on winning the Vaughan Trophy.
Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who assisted on the day enabling the day ran smoothly.
On Tuesday 9th of August we had our athletics day in Sale and it was so fun! Everyone was pumped to do well!
We did so many events which included the: 100m run, 200m run, 1500m run, hurdles, highjump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus and the seniors did a relay.
Overall the results for the Athletics House Shield was won by Corbett, followed by MacKillop, and Curran came third. The Vaughan Trophy was won by Mitch House and Ella Higgins who both had an outstanding day in all their events.
We had an amazing day as a school community, from Mr Morgs on the tunes pumping us up, to all the teachers and parents supporting us. We would like to thank Mrs Stobie for a great job organising it, we appreciated it!

5/6Hooptime
On the 27th of July the five six Hoop time teams went to the Sale Sports Stadium to compete against other schools.
From school we took a minibus to the stadium. Arriving at the stadium the air was buzzing with excitement.
There were four games to be played on the day. The girls won all four of their games and the boys won one of their four, but had a great day together.
The boys narrowly missed the finals, but the girls made it through to the Grand Final. It was a close final, but to St Mary's Sale credit they played really well and beat us by 5 points.
Overall, we all had fun and I’m glad I got to go.
