Dear families,
As we approach the end of another wonderful year at St. Mary's, I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. It has been a year filled with incredible learning experiences, memorable community events, and unwavering support from our dedicated staff, hardworking students, and wonderful families.
To our staff, your passion and commitment to education have played a pivotal role in shaping the minds and hearts of our students. Your tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have created a nurturing and inspiring learning environment. Thank you for your hard work and for going above and beyond to ensure our students thrive.
To our students, you have impressed us with your enthusiasm, resilience, and eagerness to learn. Your curiosity and determination have made our classrooms come alive, and we are incredibly proud of your achievements. Keep up the great work!
To our families, your ongoing support and active involvement in our school community have been invaluable. Your partnership is what makes St. Mary's such a special place. Thank you for entrusting us with your children's education and for being an integral part of our journey.
As we approach the holiday season, I would like to extend warm wishes to all of you. May this Christmas bring joy, love, and peace to your homes. Take this time to relax, connect with loved ones, and create lasting memories.
Looking ahead, we are excited for the year 2024. It holds great promise, and we cannot wait to embark on new adventures together. St. Mary's Primary School is built on a strong foundation of community, and I am confident that our collective efforts will continue to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
Thank you once again for an incredible year. I feel privileged to be part of such an exceptional community. On behalf of the entire St. Mary's team, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a joyful holiday season.
Warmest regards,
Julian

What a year of PE and Sport 2023 has been! It has been wonderful to see students develop, refine and extend their skills in PE classes.
In terms of sport, our school has achieved excellent results this year. Some of the highlights include:
- 3rd at HDSSA Swimming Carnival
- 2nd at HDSSA Cross Country
- 1st in Netball and Soccer at HDSSA Winter Sports
- 9 Athletes through to Regional Athletics
- Ben Murphy making it to the State Track and Field Championships
- 3/4 Boys and Girls making it to State Finals of Hooptime Basketball
- Melbourne Stars Cricket Clinics
Another highlight for 2023 was having over 40 students represent our school at the Sale United Twilight Soccer Competition. The competition has been running for over 30 years and it’s the first time our school entered teams. All students did such a fabulous job and showed great improvement as the season progressed. Special mention to our 1/2 team who came 2nd place in their section.
It really has been an absolute pleasure to be the PE teacher the last 2 years. I have loved the role and really enjoyed working with all the students across the school. I want to make special mention to the parents and grandparents who assisted me throughout my time as PE teacher. Without your support and time, our sporting events could not have happened. Thank you very much.

State Hooptime Finals
On Monday morning the ¾ Hoopime team went to the State Hooptime Finals in Dandenong. The boys tied one game and lost the other games. Although we lost most of our games we still put a lot of effort into the tournament and had lots of fun.

On Monday, the 4th of December, the 3/4 girls and boys Hooptime teams went to the Dandenong Basketball Stadium to compete in the state finals.
Both teams did a great job, the girls team won 4 games and lost 2. The boys team lost 4 and tied 1.There were some very hard teams to play against,
including Yarra Road, Holy Trinity, Bimbadeen, St.Dominics and Ringwood North. It was a long, hot and fun day. Our coach, Mrs Burgiel, was very encouraging which helped us get through the day and she kept us company.

On Thursday, the 1/2 pod went on an excursion to Sale. We visited the Gippsland Art Gallery, Wellington Library and Nakunbalook at Lake Guthridge.
What a fantastic night was shared with our 2023 graduating grade 6 students last Friday night. Although the venue was changed on the day due to weather it was not a disappointment. Students, family and teachers were able to still spend an evening together sharing a meal and many wonderful memories of their primary school years. Graduation is a lovely celebration to mark such a special achievement. It is a time for students, parents and teachers to reflect on a precious chapter in our childrens lives as they navigate their way through life.
St Mary's will bid farwell to 14 wonderful students next week. We wish Hannah, Kye, Archie, Ryder, Mackayla, Peyton, Jay, Jack, Ella, Mille, Indyanna, Cedar, Georgia and Jessica the best of luck next year. We hope they all chase their goals, passions and dreams.

Financial concessions are available to eligible families. It is important to note, when concessions are provided, there is no impact on the overall school funding situation.
These concessions may include the Camps Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) of $150 per child. Concessions are available through the following two categories.
Category 1: Eligible, means-tested Centrelink Concession Card holders:
A family in which the fee payer holds an eligible, means-tested Health Care Card (HCC) or Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) is automatically eligible for a school fee concession. There is a simplified application form and streamlined approval process.
Category 2: Special Consideration:
A family experiencing genuine financial difficulty and not eligible under Category 1, is encouraged to apply for a fee concession. This application requires detailed information in order that an equitable assessment may be made of eligibility for and level of a fee concession.
Application forms are available from the school office and only need to be completed if this is a new application. Current concession holders do not need to reapply.

I have been running a small drama school in Sale since 2017, offering drama classes for students from Foundation to year 8 on Saturday mornings. Classes operate out of The Wedge and align with the Victorian curriculum standards, with a focus on creative development collaborative skills. Classes have been full for the past two years, but some vacancies have opened up as students move up into the older groups.
