Grade 5/6 Winter Sport

Congratulations to our Grade 5/6 netball girls who competed at Winter Sports last Wednesday in Sale. They all put forward their best efforts.  Playing against very strong competition, they went down in the grand final by just 4 goals.

A big thank you goes to Sam McKay for donating her time and her umpiring fee to umpire the girls at netball on Wednesday.  We would be lost without umpires!

Netball Winter Sport

Last week on Wednesday the 8th of June, 8 girls (Ella Higgens,Olivia Hunt, Jas Daly, Millie Daly, Jessica Rowley, Chloe Murphy, Alexa Potter & Maeve Nowak) went to the Sale GRSC netball courts to represent our school St Mary's Maffra to play netball.

When we arrived at the GRSC stadium, we unloaded our stuff and headed to the netball courts. Our first game we played was against St Tommy's B team and we won that game. We then continued on to our second game. For the second game we played Maffra Primary A team and we won that game. For our third game we played 545 Primary and lost by 1 goal.

After our games we waited around to find out that we got into the Preliminary Final, it was so exciting! We had a great team game and won that game, so then we headed to the Semi Final and played St Tommy’s A team. It was close but we managed to win it and were all so excited to be playing in the Grand Final for our school.

The Grand Final game came along and we were playing so well as a team leading for most of the game. It was a hard fought match and unfortunately we lost the game to some great competition. It was really hard hearing the siren go after leading most of the match. We were a little down but also really proud of what we achieved on the day. We had great support from parents and Miss Halley and we thank them so very much. We had a fun day and will return stronger!

Congratulations to our Grade 5/6 football team who competed last Wednesday in Maffra.  A huge effort was made by all involved to make the semi final.  In a gripping match, unfortunately the team went down by a goal after the siren.  We could not be more proud of this bunch.  It is days like this we love.  Well done legends!

On Wednesday, Grade 5/6 participated in Winter sport Football. We all took the bus over to Morrison Street to the football ovals. For our first match we played 545. We ended up beating them 13-0. For our second match we played St Marys Sale. We beat them by a goal 7-1. Next we played Grammar and we beat them 15-0. Then our team went to the oval we first played on and played Maffra Primary. It was a good game but we lost 7-0. Then we had to go to the top oval and play Guthridge. We smashed them 30-0.

Then we had a break for 2 games. After our break we played St Thomas Primary School. We beat them 24-6. After we played St Thomas Primary School it was time for finals. We had to play Grammar and they were a dark horse to win the whole thing. It was a good game but one of the grammar players kicked a goal after the siren, it was heartbreaking, we lost which meant we didn't go through to the grand final. Everyone played their hearts out and we had a great day. Thanks to Morgs for coaching and giving great inspiring speeches!
