Today marks the opening day of Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Week. This week celebrates all things that make our schools a unique learning experience. A Catholic education is fundamentally underpinned by Gospel values that teach us that every single person deserves to be loved, welcomed and cared for. This year’s theme is, Catholic Schools - Places of Encounter. ‘Let the Words You Speak Always Be Full of Grace,’ based on the Bible Scripture, Colossians 4:6. This message reflects our commitment to promoting kindness, respect, and compassion in our schools and communities. As a part of this coming week we will be holding two open days on Wednesday and Thursday from 9-11am to share with the community everything great about our school.
Last Friday we had a whole school closure for a day of professional development for our school staff. The learning for the day was centred around enhancing teacher knowledge about quality teaching and learning and how to have the greatest impact on individual student growth. I want to thank the community for their understanding and flexibility on days such as these as they are integral to the continual improvement of our school.
Today we held a fundraising day for Do It for Dolly Day with a gold coin donation for casual dress (with a touch of blue) and bake sale at recess. Do it for Dolly day is a day dedicated to bringing the community together, spreading kindness and uniting in helping break the silence around bullying. It is great to see our whole community supporting such an important cause. Thank you to the 5/6 teachers and students for all of their wonderful work in organising and running the day.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Kind regards,
Julian

19th May ~ Marley Robson
Congratulations to Marley who is extremely proud of herself for overcoming her fear of learning to ride a bike. Marley showed great bravery to get out of her comfort zone and do something she really wanted to do but was scared of. She took on the challenge and showed tremendous courage because she felt she was ready to overcome this hurdle. Marley can now ride like a champion.
There is no better fun than being able to enjoy riding your bike either by yourself, with friends or family. Hopefully Marley will have many wonderful adventures on her bike. Marley should be very proud that she overcame her fear and found exceptional courage and bravery.
Well done Marley!!
To celebrate student's achievements, we will be presenting children with Star Of The Week awards. This is a self nominated award of something a student is proud of. It could be something academic, sports related, or a personal achievement. Have you learnt to ride a bike? Won 1st place in a dance competition? Read a book by yourself? Anything that makes you proud!
Forms can be found on the link below.
Week 4
AFL Clinics
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week all students participated in AFL clinics with Trevor from AFL Victoria.
The sessions provided students with the opportunity to learn and develop the basic skills required to play AFL. It was fantastic to see some students who had never picked up a football, quickly learn the key skills and by the end of the session, were kicking the ball like a professional!
HDSSA Cross Country
On Monday, 32 students represented our school at HDSSA Cross Country which were held at the Heyfield Wetlands.
Students faced challenging conditions with the weather being so warm and a snake sighting on the course.
All students did an excellent job with their races and our school finished 2nd place. Well done to the following students who will be progressing to the Wellington Cross Country in Yarram next week:
Georgia Rawson
Peyton Lambourn
Ada Phillips
Mia Potter
Ben Murphy
Larni Burns
Emilyn Knight
A special thank you to Nicki Wilkinson, Kelly Murphy and Mr Morgs for assisting on the day.
National Walk to School Day
It was wonderful to see so many students and their families participate in National Walk to School Day today.
The event is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term well-being of our children.
It was fantastic to see so many families walk to school this morning. Hopefully even in the cooler months, we can continue to see lots of our students being active on their way to school.
The art room has been a very busy place with a lot happening!
Heyfield & Disctrict Cross Country

What a great response we had today with Do It For Dolly Day. It was wonderful to see our school community get behind our 5/6 grades and support this great cause. Children wore casual clothes, in particular the color blue, for a gold coin donation. They were also able to buy a sweet treat this morning to raise money. In total, Do it For Dolly Day raised $613.00. Great effort everyone!!

The theme for this year’s celebrations is, Catholic Schools – Places of Encounter. ‘Let the words you speak always be full of Grace’, based on Colossians 4:6. Catholic schools are more than just buildings where students come to learn. They are Places of Encounter where students can grow academically, spiritually and personally.” The ‘Speaking with Grace’ theme invites us to consider the power of our words and the impact our words may have on others. Words have the power to inspire, uplift, and transform lives but they can also be hurtful or discouraging. This year’s theme aims to encourage students and those in our school community to use their words to build up others, to speak out against injustice, and to spread love and hope in the world.
