Dear families,
On Tuesday the school will be welcoming families into the classrooms for our Learning Expo. This is an opportunity for the students to share some of the amazing learning that they have been doing at school. The expo is another example of the importance of the relationship between school and for the best outcomes for our students.
Open and regular communication between school and home allows us to work together as a team, combining our efforts to provide the best education for your child. It also provides an opportunity for you to share any concerns or observations, enabling us to address them promptly. Together, we create a supportive and nurturing environment that empowers your child to thrive academically and emotionally. Thank you for your continued partnership.
This term we have had some very special Mass celebrations. These masses provide an opportunity for students to come together as a community in prayer, reflection, and deepening their understanding of faith and values. We thank all those who share these celebrations with us.
Please enjoy the weekend with your families.
Kind regards,
Julian

11th August ~ Judson Harrop
Congratulations to Judson who is extremely proud of himself for learning to play the guitar. Judson began learning how to play the guitar just this term. Through patience and lots of practise Judson has learnt how to play his first song called 'Peter Gunn'. He can also play the 'Spider' exercise and some tricky chords. Not only can he now play music but he was very brave and tried something new. Learning an instrument can take great resilience to keep trying when you don't get it straight away.
I'm certain learning to play the guitar will bring Judson and his family much happiness for years to come. What a wonderful achievement.
Well done Judson!!
To celebrate student's achievements, we will be presenting children with Star Of The Week awards. This is a self nominated award of something a student is proud of. It could be something academic, sports related, or a personal achievement. Have you learnt to ride a bike? Won 1st place in a dance competition? Read a book by yourself? Anything that makes you proud!
Forms can be found on the link below.
On Monday the 7th of August we had our whole school Athletics Carnival at the Little Athletics Track in Sale.
We were fortunate to have beautiful weather and all the children from Foundation to Grade 6 had a fantastic day competing in their events. I was so proud of all our students for having a go even when some of the events were outside their comfort zone.
Well done to McKillop House on winning the Athletics Carnival, closely followed by Corbett and Curran House.
Thank you so much to our parents and grandparents who assisted on the day. Without the parent/grandparent volunteers we would not have been able to run the day as successfully as we did. Also thank you all to our teachers and LSO staff for their help.
District Athletics
On Monday we had 32 students from Grades 3-6 represent our school at the Heyfield and District Athletics Carnival in Sale.
All students should be proud of their efforts on the day as they achieved fantastic results in their individual and team events. Students represented the school to a high standard - showing respect and supporting their teammates throughout the day.
Congratulations and good luck to the 25 students who are progressing to the Wellington Level. Thank you to Ms Halley, Gerard and Connie Dwyer for helping out on the day.
District Athletics - By Anastasia Dwyer
On Monday the 14th of August students from Grades 3-6 participated in the District Athletics at Sale. There were some tough and challenging schools to compete against in the Heyfield and District. Luckily everyone pushed themselves to their limits and kept on going. And lots of our students are progressing to the next level. In the relays, the 9/10 Boys came second and the Grade 5 girls came first. In the next round there will be lots of tough schools to compete against.
District Athletics - By Patrick Butcher
Thank you to all the staff and parents that helped at the Athletics. Special thanks to the Maffra Secondary College students who helped and supported us. Good job to all the students who participated in the Athletics. And well done to all the students going on to the next round. Keep up the good work.
Twilight Soccer
At school in PE classes we have been focusing on Soccer which has tied in nicely with the FIFA Women’s World Cup Soccer. Students have been loving participating in the activities and games during class. Soccer has also been an extremely popular activity to play in the yard at recess and lunch break. Next term there is a Twilight Soccer Competition that will be happening in Sale on Monday afternoons. I am hoping to get some school teams to participate in the competition. I will send out more information soon for interested students. Stay tuned!
Cricket
With the AFL season finishing up soon, our local cricket clubs are starting their preseason training and recruitment. If your child is interested in participating in cricket, please see below for more information on how to get involved.

What a perfect day we had for our 2024 School Athletics. The sun was shining, there were lots of smiling faces and lots of support. Thank you to Mrs Bec Stobie for organising such a smoothly run day. Thank you to the very helpful staff for ensuring all students enjoyed themselves and kept the day on time. Thank you to our fantastic students for their support of one another, their competitiveness and their wonderful sportsmanship. Also, thank you to our amazing St Mary's community for coming along to support and cheer on our students.
Results were very close with MacKillop running out eventual winners for the day. Results were MacKillop 1st, Corbett 2nd, Curran 3rd.
The 3/4 boys and girls basketball teams had a great day out at the Hooptime competition in Sale last Friday. They both played some fantastic basketball showing great teamwork and determination. They also represented the school fantastically and were a pleasure to coach.
Hi everyone!!
I am pleased to inform you that we have begun the Smiling Mind program across the whole school.
WHAT IS SMILING MIND?
The Smiling Mind School Program is an evidence-based approach to support student mental health and wellbeing.
Smiling Mind is a meditation app for everyone. It has been developed by a team of psychologists and uses mindfulness to boost calmness, contentment and clarity. Mindfulness meditation has been shown to help manage stress, resilience, anxiety, depression and improve general health and wellbeing.
I encourage every family to read the attached, ‘Guide for Parents and Carers’. You can find the PDF attachment above.
Click on the link below to read more about how Smiling Mind supports the Personal and Social Capability section of the curriculum through explicit teaching of social and emotional learning.
Make your home a mindful one!
Mindfulness not only benefits children, it supports parents' and caregivers' mental health and wellbeing, benefiting the family as a whole. Smiling Mind has developed a range of tools and resources to support families to build their mental fitness together. Download the app!
Please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
